During sports seasons you can often find equipment and backpacks strewn about the freshman hall and covering the freshman benches. What makes this an issue?
Storing equipment and backpacks in the hall takes up limited bench and hallway space that students use daily, making it harder to move through the halls when it’s busy and limiting the number of students who can use the benches for studying.
Then what’s the issue with equipment in the halls when it’s not taking up bench space?
Besides taking up limited bench space, it also hurts the appearance of Breck. For example, if you were visiting Breck and observed the freshman hall full of clutter, the school would feel messy and disorganized, discouraging you from wanting to go there.
Why do people continue to store equipment there when it takes up so much space? Some reasons have been the convenience of the hall, not having other space to put things, or that’s where everyone else puts their stuff.
A solution to this is storing equipment in the designated areas we have for storing our stuff, lockers. We all have lockers that are here for storage of whatever we bring to school. An alternative to lockers is simply asking advisers to store equipment in their room. If we all do one or both of these things we can easily get rid of the unnecessary clutter in the halls. Although it may be less convenient, it’s worth it to spend the extra time to put your equipment in a better spot.
