Are the Minnesota Timberwolves poised for the NBA Finals?

The answer for most Minnesota fans is yes, but others are not so sure. The Timberwolves came into Game 7 Sunday night at Ball Arena playing 5,280 levels above sea level and hungry for a win to move on to the Western Conference Finals. The last time the Wolves went to the Western Conference was 20 years ago in 2004 during the Kevin Garnett era.

Minnesota was down by 15 points at halftime and Anthony Edwards had just 4 points at the half. The Timberwolves were then down by 20 points at the start of the 3rd quarter. Then Minnesota went on an immaculate 54-24 run in the second half to erase the 20 point deficit, all credit to the Minnesota Timberwolves defense, which has been the best defensive team all year. Thanks to the run, at the end of the third quarter the score was 67-66 with the Timberwolves only down by one point. Finally, when the 4th quarter came, Minnesota woke up from their scoring drought and continued playing very good defense, especially on the 3 time all-star Nikola Jokic, who only went 1 for 8 from 3 point range throughout the entire game.

The Minnesota Timberwolves then shocked the entire Mile High City and beat the Denver Nuggets 98-90. Shockingly, the Wolves’ leading scorer was not Anthony Edwards, it was Karl Anthony Towns and Jaden McDaniels who each recorded 23 points. On to face the Dallas Mavericks starting on Wednesday 7:30 CT on TNT!
