On July 19, 2024, the highly anticipated film, Twisters, was released. Starring Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones, Twisters is the standalone sequel to the 1998 Version Twister. Powell’s character, Tyler Owens, is a social media phenomenon who works as a stormtrooper, capturing extreme weather events online. His charismatic charm is complimented by Edgar-Jones’s character, Kate Carter, a former stormtrooper whose past failures continue to haunt her.
Plot: 5.9/10
The concept is nothing groundbreaking, as the plot essentially mirrors that of the original, but the plot does have some interesting twists. People who enjoyed the original will enjoy the new one; however, as someone who did not see the original, I thought the plot lacked depth and was monotonous at times.
Soundtrack: 10/10
The soundtrack to Twisters comprises 29 songs, spanning for around 1 hour and 32 minutes. It features several popular country artists such as Luke Combs, Bailey Zimmerman, Jelly Roll, Kane Brown, Lainey Wilson, Megan Moroney, and many more. The soundtrack’s popularity is heavily contributing to the resurgence of country music in the past year. Such popularity has brought viewership to Twisters to a new level as it had a box office of around 81 million dollars in opening week.
Acting: 6.8/10
Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones’ chemistry has often been negatively compared to that of Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell’s chemistry in the movie Anyone But You that was released earlier this year. Overall, the chemistry seemed to be missing something but the individual acting performances were decent.
Overall: 7.1/10
