According to the 2024 election results, Donald Trump will return to office as 47th President of the United States for a second time since his first term as President in 2016. This is also the first-ever election since George W. Bush in 2004 in which a sitting Republican President won the popular vote. This election has been a joy to watch; but, there will be some happiness and frustrations from the general public and for Americans of how they will be able to view American democracy over the next four years. Here’s the analysis:
According to research from Pew, “about 22-28% of adults are excited about Trump’s win, and about 15-33% say they are either disappointed or angry.” This means that the remaining 55% are probably neutral about the results and don’t want to express their thoughts and feelings. The Republican party will most likely be content over Trump’s appointment because it benefits their status as a party and it’s a huge impact into what type of policies they are planning on implementing for the American people over the next four years with control over the house and senate. About 43-46% of Republicans feel happy from 2016 and 2024 and nothing has changed much according to their standards. On the other hand, according to Democrats they are angry about Trump’s win as they consider him a threat to American democracy. In 2024, about 31% of American Democrats think that Trump shouldn’t have won the election. Compared to 2016, 26% of them felt angry for Trump winning the election. What’s important is to move on and accept whatever’s best for us—whether happy, sad, or neutral about the results.
Harris supporters believe the main outcome for the election was that the economy isn’t doing well under the Biden administration. Biden was getting backlash over some of the foreign policy issues that are happening all over the world and decided that action should be taken to combat it. If this is the case, Democrats now understand what it takes to win the election in 2028. For now, Trump is in office, and no matter your political stance, we can all come together and thrive in the next four years!
