On Wednesday, January 15th, students and teachers alike roamed the carefully set up aisles of clothing in the Glass Balcony for the Environmental CP’s first Sunshine Sale. This was inspired by Jefferson High School’s environmental club who did a thrift day. After Environmental CP decided to follow their lead and create their own Sunshine Sale, they had to determine where the proceeds would go. This is where solar panels come in. The CP has been hard at work trying to get solar panels installed at Breck. But, since solar panels are so expensive, the CP knew they would need to raise money on their own. They applied for a grant, but that wouldn’t cover all the costs. Environmental CP was in the beginning stages of planning the Sunshine Sale, so they decided to link the two projects—solar panels and the Sunshine Sale—by giving all the money that was raised to their solar panel fund.
Environmental CP succeeded in their mission. They raised about 500 dollars. While they will still need to do more fundraising for the solar panels, the Sunshine Sale was definitely a step in the right direction. Additionally, Environmental CP succeeded in getting the school excited about environmental issues. The CP was happily surprised by the participation and response from the many people who brought in clothing items and attended the sale, ranging from students to administrators and more. They got a lot of positive feedback and are hoping this sale will inspire annual Sunshine Sales.
