Labubus are in high demand right now, and Pop Mart controls the supply. Labubus were invented in 2015 . They first appeared in the book, The Monsters, by Kasing Lung. Yet, their global popularity didn’t really take off until around April of 2024. Like most coveted items, Labubus achieved initial fame via social media platforms like Tik Tok and Instagram. This initial fame took off to new heights when K-pop idol Lisa from the group BLACKPINK started promoting Labubus on her social media feed. I recently enjoyed a master class on all things Labubus from Breck’s one and only Toliver—a self-proclaimed Labubu expert. Toliver patiently walked me through the intricate ins and outs of acquiring a coveted Labubu. The hyper-competitive environment of Labubu buying is controlled mainly by Pop Mart, but there are counterfeit sites trying to sell fake Lafufus to unsuspecting buyers. These knock-off Labubus range from four legged creatures to nearly identical replicas of authentic Labubus. With all of the wannabe Labubus floating around the marketplace, there are only a few sites where you can be assured of purchasing a real Labubu. Toliver’s top three sites for authentic Labubu shopping are Pop Mart stores, the Pop Mart website, and Pop Mart Tik Tok live streams. All of these platforms require different strategies to secure a Labubu, but all are trustworthy. Whatever journey you chose to hunt down a precious Labubu, just remember one thing: if you want the real deal, Pop Mart controls the market. And for Labubu advice, Toliver is your go-to source.
