In early February, Breck Upper Schoolers gathered in Gym B for the Snow Days dance. Although it might have been a sparse crowd this year, we see tons of potential for the future of Snow Days. One thing that we could possibly do to improve the dance for upcoming years is a shift in location. Gym B felt not only secluded and slightly drab, but a bit underwhelming. We think that the student council should organize a theme to inspire community engagement, and Farrah Flamenbaum ‘29 thought that the dance would become more of a destination for fun if upperclassmen attended and encouraged underclassmen to come too. Farrah thinks that the dance can get even more hype and be a better fit for Breck’s students if we take action into finding a DJ that brings good vibes, and perhaps send out a form to decide together upon a theme, such as casino, winter wonderland, or tropical.
Compared to Homecoming, attendance to Snow Days was definitely less. Perhaps this is because Homecoming has so many traditions surrounding it. If the days around Snow Days built community and created higher anticipation and excitement for the dance, maybe more people would attend. While the theme days are a good start to the building of Breck spirit, a fun idea would be to rally Breck students out to a winter sports match to build Breck spirit, or to have the theme days be grade-specific as they are during Homecoming.
Many students felt that being in Gym B was too squished and hot. If possible, those organizing the dance might consider moving the dance to a different location. The Homecoming tent is a very enjoyable setting, although Snow Days might be too cold of a season to be outside. There was also discussion of having the dance in the Anderson Ice Arena, which is also a good option. Overall, Snow Days was fun this year. However, we think the winter dance definitely has the potential to be even more festive and fun. We think adding a theme and increasing attendance would surely bring more vibes and enjoyment.
